Title: Director of Inmate Programs and Services - Detention Center

Salary: $19.72 hr


DIRECTOR OF INMATE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES (Detention Center): Under general supervision, performs correctional duties involving the care, custody, and control of inmates at the Beaufort County Detention Center. Will also provide opportunities for services and guidance to inmates, Exercises knowledgeable judgement in evaluation information and in determining priorities concerning inmate needs and requests. Coordinates all volunteer programs, library services and religious activities. Provides training and supervision to all volunteers. Handles all matters pertaining to the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) 2003, zero-tolerance policy to include reporting of violation(s) and maintaining files.


  • Bachelor degree with course work emphasis in Social Work, Criminal Justice or related field; supplemented by completion of basic jailer training program; or five (5) years previous experience and/or training involving individual/group counseling, counseling in a correctional setting, community social services, criminal justice court procedures, detention center work and supervision
  • Must possess and maintain valid Certified Correctional Officer certification (Class 2) from SC Criminal Justice Academy
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Valid NCIC Terminal Operator certification from South Carolina Law Enforcement Division
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Must possess and maintain valid driver’s license with no DUI convictions within the past five years
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must have satisfactory credit history
  • Able to pass the physical examination
  • NO convictions for criminal domestic violence or any crime of moral turpitude

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
