Title: Animal Services Officer

Salary: $16.38 hr


ANIMAL SERVICES OFFICER:  Responsible for enforcing animal control ordinances.  Patrols designated areas, assisting and advising the public regarding proper animal care and investigating complaints.  Acts as liaison with community members, educating the public and resolving conflicts.  Issues violation notices and works with law enforcement when joint action is required.  Responds to emergencies, including injured or vicious animals and severe cruelty situations which may immediately threaten the life of an animal.  Provides educational presentations to community and school groups teaching proper care of animals, as well as services provided by the Beaufort County Animal Shelter.  Will require working day and evening shifts, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule.  Will require being on standby and subject to emergency call-in on a rotating schedule.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Interest in animal welfare and significant experience handling animals
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with good driving record
  • Euthanasia Certification within 6 months of employment
  • Chemical Capture Certification preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in varied conditions (inclement weather, traffic, heat, etc.)
  • Ability to work varied schedule, including some weekends, evenings and holidays

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation. EOE.
