TRAFFIC SIGNAL TECHNICIAN (Traffic Engineering):  Responsible for the day to day construction, installation, maintenance, modification, trouble shooting and repair of traffic signals and communication systems and electronic components related to traffic signals and signal systems.   

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Supplemented by vocational/technical training in traffic signal installation/maintenance, traffic safety, and equipment operation
  • Three (3) years previous experience or training in the fields of electronics, public works construction, or project coordination
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must possess a Work Zone Safety Certificate or obtain same within six (6) months of employment
  • Must possess an IMSA Level I Signalization Certificate or obtain same within eight (8) months of employment
  • Must possess an IMSA Level II Signalization Certificate or obtain same within eighteen (18) months of employment
  • Must be able to work from a bucket truck at elevations up to 35 feet above ground
  • Ability to distinguish the full range of the color spectrum

 

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
