COMMERCIAL COMBINATION INSPECTOR: Travels throughout the county to project sites: conducts building inspections for commercial and residential new construction, additions, alterations, and remodeling projects: ensures compliance with the applicable state adopted building codes and standards for all aspects of the construction process that includes but is not limited to the flood, accessibility, special inspections, fire building, electrical, plumbing and HVAC requirements of the code. Identifies code violations and needed corrective action; writes inspection reports regarding findings, identifies compliance issues and needed corrections or modifications and re-inspects buildings after completion of corrections/modifications. Other duties as required and assigned.  

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent with coursework emphasis in construction, drafting, or related field  
  • Three (3) years of experience working with building plans and codes
  • Must possess certification from the State of South Carolina as a combination commercial inspector or equivalent certification that grants authorization to perform the duties as a combination commercial inspector; or achieve one certification within the first year of employment, then a maximum of one year for each additional certification until fully certified under state law to perform the duties as a combination commercial inspector with specialty certification in Building, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing.

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
